Hokkaido Travel | Shiroi Koibito Park: 30th Anniversary Assortment

白い恋人
(Shiroi Koibito)

Shiroi Koibito is a representative confection of Hokkaido, Japan, made by Ishiya Confectionery. It consists of crispy langue-de-chat cookies with white chocolate sandwiched in between. The name “Shiroi Koibito (白い恋人)” literally means “White Lover,” evoking the image of Hokkaido in winter, when the landscape turns pure white with falling snow. In Japan, it is so widely known that almost everyone is familiar with it, and it is also one of the most popular souvenirs among travelers.

Shiroi Koibito Park is a theme park where visitors can observe the confectionery production process, enjoy various hands-on activities, and experience the brand’s unique worldview. It is considered a must-visit destination for many people traveling to Hokkaido and is also famous as a photogenic spot. In 2025, the park celebrates its 30th anniversary, and a variety of limited-edition products have been released to mark the occasion. Among them, I purchased the 30th Anniversary Assortment, which allows you to enjoy both the cookies and the chocolates together.

This is the Shiroi Koibito Park 30th Anniversary Assortment package. While the original Shiroi Koibito packaging features a clean design inspired by the snowy landscapes of Hokkaido, this 30th anniversary edition emphasizes a theme-park atmosphere, taking motifs from the exterior of Shiroi Koibito Park. The front of the package includes a message celebrating the 30th anniversary, adding to the special, limited-edition feel and enhancing its collectible value.

The package is about the width of a hand, making it a convenient size—neither too large nor too small. It is easy to purchase several boxes during travel without feeling burdened, making it highly suitable as a souvenir or gift. Thanks to its well-crafted commemorative design, it also leaves a meaningful impression on the recipient when given as a present.

The moment I opened the package, I immediately thought, “Ah, this really is Shiroi Koibito Park!” As soon as I lifted the lid, the first thing I saw was a thick paper piece decorated with cats and a bear. Beneath it was a sturdy box lid inspired by the red brick motif of Shiroi Koibito Park. The lid had small holes that allowed the enclosed parts to be inserted according to their numbers, creating a structure that you could assemble and enjoy.

I expected the familiar Shiroi Koibito langue-de-chat cookies to appear right away, but instead, I found a design that offered not only the fun of eating but also an added layer of enjoyment through the interactive packaging. This thoughtful and playful design felt very characteristic of Shiroi Koibito Park.

After opening the lid with the red brick motif, the Shiroi Koibito Assortment finally appeared. This 30th anniversary limited-edition set includes three pieces each of Shiroi Koibito White and Black, two pieces each of the white chocolate and milk chocolate from the “Purumi and Lamuru’s Chocolate Story,” and three pieces each of plain cookies and cocoa cookies.

Purumi and Lamuru are cat-shaped chocolates, and they seem to be the names of the cats that appeared on the paper parts seen earlier.

I really liked that the assortment included not only Shiroi Koibito cookies but also additional cookies and chocolates, allowing me to enjoy a variety of Shiroi Koibito sweets all at once.

This is the completed look after assembling each of the paper parts and placing them onto the Shiroi Koibito package. With the exterior of the Shiroi Koibito building as the backdrop, the decorations inspired by the theme park’s iconic clock tower and rose motifs bring back memories of the enjoyable moments spent at Shiroi Koibito Park.

One thing I found slightly disappointing was that, because the paper parts were made of thick material, the inserting sections did not fit as smoothly as expected, and I eventually had to secure them with transparent tape. However, knowing that I assembled the package myself made it feel even more satisfying and special.

Taking out the cookies and chocolates included in the set also sparked curiosity about their flavors and added a sense of anticipation that was different from the fun of assembling the paper parts.

I placed the Shiroi Koibito in the center and arranged the chocolates and cookies on either side. The Shiroi Koibito offered its signature harmony of flavors—the crisp langue-de-chat cookies crumbled lightly while the smooth, sweet white chocolate spread gently, creating the familiar balanced taste that the confection is known for.

The chocolates included in the set slowly melted in the mouth, leaving a delicate sweetness and a pleasant nuttiness, while the cookies had a crisp yet not overly hard texture, making them easy and enjoyable to eat. Each item had its own charm, allowing me to enjoy and compare a variety of flavors on a single plate.

The Shiroi Koibito Park 30th Anniversary Assortment was priced at 1,500 yen including tax, which felt quite reasonable. As a limited-edition item available only for the 30th anniversary, it carried an added sense of special meaning, making it an even more memorable souvenir.
