白髭のシュークリーム工房
(Shirohige no Shūkurīmu Kōbō)
Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory (白髭のシュークリーム工房), located in Tokyo, is the only place in Japan where you can taste cream puffs shaped like Totoro. Officially approved by Studio Ghibli, these adorable Totoro cream puffs are filled with delicious custard and have become a popular treat. Seasonal flavors are also available, offering visitors something new to enjoy each time they come.
There are currently two branches. The main shop, the Daita (代田) branch near Shimokitazawa, is located in a quiet residential area and features a cozy atmosphere with a café space where you can relax and enjoy your dessert. The other, the Kichijoji (吉祥寺) branch, is conveniently situated in one of Tokyo’s most popular shopping and sightseeing districts, making it an easy stop after exploring the area. I visited the Daita branch after finishing my trip to Tokyo Disneyland and reserved Totoro cream puffs before returning to Osaka.
Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory: Daita branch

Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory Daita branch is located about a 3-minute walk from Setagaya-Daita Station on the Odakyu Line and about 7 minutes on foot from Shimokitazawa Station. It is also easily accessible from popular Tokyo destinations such as Harajuku and Shinjuku, which are roughly 20 minutes away by train.
The shop is housed in a two-story building, with the first floor being Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory and the second floor operating as a separate café. If you are purchasing Totoro cream puffs or cookies, you can go directly to the first floor. The second-floor café does not accept reservations, so if it’s crowded, you may need to wait in line outside. When I visited, there were noticeably more international tourists than local Japanese customers.
According to the official website, the Daita branch is open from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is closed every Tuesday. However, if Tuesday falls on a national holiday, the shop will be closed on the following Wednesday instead.
Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory: 2nd Floor Café (Daita Branch)

This is the interior of Tolo Coffee & Bakery(トロ コーヒー&ベーカリー), the cozy café located on the second floor of Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory.
The café is quite small, seating around twenty people, but its warm lighting and wooden interior create a relaxing and homely atmosphere. From the window seats, you can enjoy a peaceful view of the quiet residential streets while savoring your dessert.

You can also order Totoro cream puffs at the café on the second floor. However, since I had reserved mine for takeout in advance, I decided to enjoy coffee and a light meal instead. Sitting in the warm, inviting space with a cup of coffee felt like a peaceful break during my trip.
When I visited, there was a time limit for staying at the café. It seemed to be a thoughtful system to allow more people to enjoy the space comfortably.
Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory: 1st Floor Interior (Daita Branch)

This is the first floor of Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory Daita branch. The first thing that caught my eye as I stepped inside was the autograph of Hayao Miyazaki, the legendary director of Studio Ghibli.
The shop interior is charmingly decorated with various Ghibli character goods and cookies for sale. Surrounded by dolls and illustrations from beloved films such as My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, Spirited Away, and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, I felt as if I had stepped right into the whimsical world of Ghibli itself.
Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory: Totoro Cream Puffs & Cookies

These are the Totoro cream puffs I reserved for takeout. Each Totoro has a different decoration on its head—such as a leaf, hat, or flower—to indicate the flavor inside. For example, the green leaf represents custard cream. You can check the full list of flavors and their designs on the official website of Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory.

While waiting for my reserved Totoro cream puffs, I also purchased a set of Totoro cookies.
The cookie package was a bit larger than I expected—about the size of an A4 sheet of paper. Inside were Totoro cookies in various sizes and flavors, and on one side of the box was a charming illustration of Mei on her way to see her mother. The set also included a flavor guide, making it even more enjoyable to taste and appreciate each cookie.

The Totoro cream puffs and cookies from Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory were so adorable that I couldn’t stop saying “how cute!”—whether I was looking at them, taking pictures, or finally taking a bite.
At Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory, the only place in Japan where you can buy Totoro-shaped cream puffs and cookies, these treats make perfect souvenirs from Tokyo or gifts for friends and loved ones.
Tips for Visiting Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory
1. If you plan to buy as a gift, visit Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory at the end of your trip
Totoro cream puffs from Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory should be stored below 10°C and are best eaten on the day of purchase.
If you can’t eat them right away, it’s recommended to buy a cooling bag at the shop. I visited Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory on the last day of my Tokyo trip, placed the Totoro cream puffs in a cooling bag, and headed back to Osaka.
2. Cookies with a longer shelf life are also great as gifts
Compared to the cream puffs, Totoro cookies have a longer shelf life, making them a good option for gifts.
If you have a long journey ahead or plan to give them later, the cute and easy-to-store Totoro cookies are a perfect choice.
3. Reserve Totoro cream puffs in advance
You can still buy cream puffs at the shop without a reservation if they’re available, but they usually sell out quite early in the day.
If you plan to visit on the same day, try to go as early as possible after opening, and if you want a specific flavor or need to match your schedule, making a reservation is recommended. Reservations can be made by phone directly to the shop.
4. Frozen Totoro cream puffs available online
If you’re unable to visit Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory in person, you can also purchase frozen Totoro cream puffs from the official online store. Please refer to the official website of Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory for details.
