Henry’s PIZZA

Henry’s Pizza, located in Tanimachi, Osaka, is a pizza specialty shop that reinterprets New York–style slice pizza through a Japanese lens. The shop was launched by graphic artist VERDY and Sarumaru, the owner of “PIZZA SLICE,” with the aim of creating a space where food and street culture naturally come together.
VERDY is a leading figure in Japan’s street scene, having gained global recognition through collaborations that span fashion, music, and food. His iconic graphics and bold use of color are reflected throughout the space, turning the act of eating pizza into a cultural experience rather than just a meal.
Gaining attention in Japan as “VERDY’s pizza shop,” Henry’s Pizza became even more well known after visits from internationally recognized artists, including Jennie and Rosé of the K-pop group BLACKPINK, as well as Bruno Mars. With these high-profile visits, the shop has established itself as a place that offers not only great pizza but also strong cultural significance.
Henry’s Pizza occupies a building that spans from one basement level to three floors above ground. The first floor is dedicated to pizza sales, the second floor serves as a dining space where guests can enjoy their pizza, and the third floor houses an event space called Rise Above Gallery, where exhibitions and various creative projects are held.

1st Floor: Order & Pizza Counter

At Henry’s Pizza, run by VERDY in Osaka, customers can watch the staff making pizzas right at the entrance on the first floor.
Being able to see who is making the pizza and how it is prepared creates a sense of trust, while also building anticipation for enjoying a freshly made slice.

After watching the pizzas being made, your eyes naturally move to the display case filled with a variety of delicious-looking slices.
While the menu names are not written out, you can easily tell what kind of pizza each one is by looking at the toppings, allowing you to choose your pizza in advance before ordering. This makes waiting in line feel far from boring.
Menu and Ordering

Personally, I often find it difficult to choose when a menu has too many options, so I was pleased with how simple and straightforward the menu at Henry’s Pizza is. The menu is written in both English and Japanese, which makes ordering easy even for those who do not speak Japanese.
One thing to note is that cash payments are not accepted. For soda drinks, one refill is included.
Drinks and Self Service

Next to the cashier, there is a soda fountain machine. If you order a soda, you can take the cup provided by the staff and choose your preferred drink yourself. Since you only need to select a drink and press a button, it is easy to use even on your first visit.
Next to the soda fountain machine, sauces and seasonings such as Tabasco, ketchup, and pepper are available, along with drink cup lids and straws, which can be used as needed.

While waiting for the pizza to be ready after placing an order and picking up a drink, I took a look around the first floor. Thanks to the unified interior design and well-organized layout, the space felt comfortable, and the shop as a whole gave the impression of being clean and well maintained.
However, since the space is not very large, it is difficult to stay on the first floor for long. Once the pizza is ready, customers move up to the second floor to enjoy their meal.
Merchandise and Apparel

One thing that felt somewhat unique for a pizza shop was that Henry’s Pizza sells its own merchandise near the stairs leading up to the second floor. Apparel such as T-shirts, pants, and eco bags featuring the shop’s exterior or logo make Henry’s Pizza feel not just like a pizza restaurant, but a brand and a cultural space.
2nd Floor: Dining Area

The second floor of Henry’s Pizza, which serves as the dining area, has around seven tables and can accommodate approximately 20 to 30 people. VERDY’s artworks are displayed throughout the space, making it appealing to enjoy pizza while taking in the artwork.
The second floor is also clean and well maintained overall, and there is a restroom located near the stairs, which makes it convenient for customers.

The pizzas at Henry’s Pizza, run by VERDY, stand out for their large size, which is still relatively rare in Japan. They are classic New York–style slices, featuring a thin yet chewy crust topped generously with hearty toppings, and are easy to enjoy with one hand.
If you are looking for authentic American New York–style pizza in Osaka, Henry’s Pizza is well worth a visit. With Osaka Castle located nearby, it is also a great stop to include as part of a sightseeing itinerary.
