Shiga Travel | RIVERSIDE GLAMPING Nuts: Kansai Day Trip, Facilities & Tent Review

RIVERSIDE GLAMPING Nuts

Riverside Glamping Nuts is located in Shiga Prefecture. Geographically, it is close to major Kansai areas such as Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara, making it a destination you can visit even on a day trip. The accommodations are situated right next to Kanzakigawa, a river known for its exceptionally clear and clean water, so you can enjoy swimming and playing in the river just a few steps from the glamping site.

In Japan, many people enjoy BBQs every summer. I personally love the sea and rivers, so I wanted to get away from downtown Osaka and find a place in nature with fewer people and cleaner air where I could enjoy both BBQ and river activities. After searching through countless BBQ spots and glamping sites, this is the place I ultimately chose.

The reason I chose Riverside Glamping Nuts in Shiga Prefecture is that it is close enough for a day trip, the facilities were clean, and above all, the surrounding mountains and stream were unbelievably clear and beautiful. Among all the BBQ spots I’ve visited so far, this place remains the most impressive.

It takes about two hours by car from central Osaka. Since the expressway can get congested depending on the situation, it’s best to leave at least two hours earlier than your intended arrival time. I had a reservation at 11:30 and planned to arrive by 11:00, but the expressway was unexpectedly very crowded, and it took an hour just to get out of Osaka.

You can also get there by public transportation, but it takes about four hours and requires several transfers between trains and buses, so I wouldn’t recommend it. You naturally end up carrying quite a bit of luggage for BBQ and river activities, and especially in the hot summer, traveling for four hours with all that gear can be extremely exhausting.

When you arrive at Riverside Glamping Nuts in Shiga Prefecture, you can park your car at the entrance and walk straight inside. There is only one entrance, so you will easily recognize it as soon as you get out of the car.

Once you pass through the entrance, you will see the glamping facilities lined up on both sides, just like in the photos, making it easy to grasp the layout of the entire site.

Reception and small shop near the entrance

As you enter the site, you will find the reception and small shop immediately on your left. This is where you check in and handle any inquiries, and it also serves as a shop offering alcoholic drinks and soft drinks. They also provide a 90-minute all-you-can-drink option, making it convenient to enjoy beverages while glamping.

Shared restroom near the entrance

On the opposite side of the reception and shop—meaning immediately to the right when you enter—there is a shared restroom and a shower room. The restroom is free to use, but the shower room requires a fee, so please ask at the reception if you need it.

For the restroom, you must take off your shoes at the entrance and change into the provided bathroom slippers before using it. The facility is well maintained and comfortable to use.

At Riverside Glamping Nuts, the tents are divided into two main areas: the NUTS Area and the Kokage (木陰: Woodshade) Area.

The NUTS Area is located right along the river, and since the site itself is not very large, you can see the river from almost anywhere within the area.

The Kokage Area, on the other hand, is ideal for families with children. A shallow riverbank spreads out right in front of the tents, making it a safe place for kids to play in the water. In this area, the K-type tents also allow pets.

Since I wanted to enjoy BBQ while listening to the sound of the stream as closely as possible, I chose the triangular tent in the NUTS Area.

This is the inside of the tent. It was more spacious than I expected, and the sofa and table were neatly arranged. Since I was on a day trip, there was no bed prepared, but I thought it would be nice to stay in one of the accommodations with beds if I have the chance in the future.

The tent was equipped with an air conditioner, so it seemed comfortable in any season—cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Temperature control is often a concern when camping outdoors, but here it felt like you could enjoy glamping comfortably throughout the year.

There was also a small mirror and a table, which were convenient for touching up makeup or keeping small personal items organized. Cushions and blankets were provided as well, making it easy to lie down for a moment or take a short rest. Overall, the interior was well prepared, offering a surprisingly comfortable space even though it was just a day trip.

On both sides of the tent, there were stools, a small fan, a mini refrigerator, a trash bin, and decorative lighting, all well prepared for enjoying BBQ and river activities.

Although I brought my drinks in an insulated bag, the mini refrigerator inside the tent made it easy to keep everything cold even as time passed. This was especially convenient in the summer, since drinks like canned beer and sodas taste best when they’re chilled. It was nice to be able to grab a cold drink whenever I wanted.

The mini fridge was also very useful for storing BBQ ingredients such as meat and seafood. Since these items can spoil quickly in hot weather, being able to keep them refrigerated felt like a major advantage. It made the experience safer and more relaxing, knowing that the ingredients we brought were properly stored.

When looking outside from inside the tent, the BBQ area is located right in front, which made it very convenient to step back into the tent and relax whenever I wanted a break from grilling. The short distance between the two was especially convenient for a day trip.

Although it was midsummer, it wasn’t hot enough for me to need the air conditioner, and the breeze outside made it feel even cooler than inside the tent. Being able to enjoy BBQ right in front of the tent was convenient, and the tent I stayed in was also close to the shared restroom, which made everything even more comfortable.
