About the Book
■Title: Fast Learning Method (高速勉強法)
■Author: Mariko Mabuchi (馬渕磨理子)
■Publisher: PHP Institute (PHP研究所)
Mariko Mabuchi is an economic analyst who graduated from Kyoto University Graduate School. She also serves as a visiting associate professor at Hollywood Graduate School and is the representative director of the Japan Institute of Financial Economics, a general incorporated association.
This book introduces study methods aimed at increasing income, mainly for working professionals. According to the author, many people do not know how to study in order to increase their income and assets, and therefore remain stuck in the exam-oriented study methods they used as students. Then why do people with higher incomes study every day without fail? And what study methods do they have in common? This book explains the answers to these questions in detail.
The author herself once had an annual income of only 2.6 million yen, but by changing the way she studied, she now earns about ten times that amount. Based on her own experience, this book reveals for the first time the study strategies that helped her increase her income.
For those who feel they do not have enough time because they have to balance work and family, or for those who want to start learning again but do not know where to begin, this book recommends simply starting with the study methods introduced here.
Summary
This book explains how working professionals should study if they want to increase their income. The author says that one common trait among people who earn high incomes is their attitude of “continuing to learn.” According to her, wealthy people keep studying in order to increase their value.
She also emphasizes that when learning investment skills or economic knowledge, “building a strong foundation” is more important than any special technique. Rather than constantly searching for new information, clearly understanding the basic concepts is what truly develops one’s ability.
For weekdays, the author explains that it is effective to achieve results through short periods of focused effort and to integrate work and study. She also suggests that instead of studying alone, it is important to learn from people who are actually achieving results and to develop the knowledge one has learned into one’s own. The book concludes by emphasizing the importance of growing and refining knowledge in this way.

If you study, the people you meet will change. If the people you meet change, your life will change
My Thoughts
This book was both educational and highly relatable for me. At first glance, some of the ideas may sound obvious, but the author explains many points that we often fail to notice in daily life, based on her own real experiences, which made the book very helpful.
The author particularly emphasizes that the key to studying is building a strong foundation. People who lack a solid foundation tend to struggle with selecting useful information, focus only on the immediate tasks in front of them, and often blame others for their failures. In contrast, those with a strong foundation can filter information, choose work that increases their value, and avoid overestimating themselves. Reading this made me reflect on things I understood in theory but had not fully practiced, and it became an opportunity to reconsider which side I might belong to.
I also found the idea of “learning like an analyst” very impressive. The author, being an analyst herself, highlights the importance of analytical ability, curiosity, communication skills, and quick decision-making. I felt that these qualities are important in any field of study, not only for analysts.
In today’s AI era, individual and unique value will become even more important. If we increase our own value, income will naturally follow.
